Liverpool are looking to shock when they intend to sign Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge in the closing days of the transfer window.
Midfielder Sander Berge has attracted the attention of coach Juergen Klopp after his recent performances. The 24-year-old could become the solution to Liverpool’s injury crisis.
Sheffield United paid Genk £22m for Berge in January 2020. The Norwegian midfielder was a key factor in Sheffield reaching the Championship play-offs last season.
In Sheffield, Berge is so important that the club set a release clause of up to £35m for him. However, that did not make the FA Cup champions hesitate.
During the summer, Sheffield made it clear that they wanted to keep Berge. They turned down an offer from Belgian club, Club Brugge. But with the interest from a big team like Liverpool and especially coach Klopp, it will be difficult for Sheffield to keep Berge in the final days of the transfer window.
Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino admitted that he’s a fan of Berge and believed that the 24-year-old midfielder is a talented player.
“A big lad with a great drive. I watched him last night against Luton and I’ve seen quite a lot of him because Chris Wilder brought him to Sheffield United and he spoke very highly of him as a footballer.” Cascarino said.
“So gifted, a great turn of pace, and sees things. It would be a different type of signing because going from the Championship to one of the top teams in the Premier League. He’s a very talented boy.” Cascarino added.
On the Liverpool side, they are suffering a storm of injuries. Many of their mainstays such as Thiago, Naby Keita, Curtis Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are currently sidelined waiting to recover.
Klopp once intended to close Liverpool’s transfer season early. However, he had to change his mind after the club continued to have more injuries as they entered the new season.
