Jorge Messi, revealed that his son Lionel Messi wants to return to Barcelona after leaving Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the 2022/23 season.
According to reports, PSG and Messi were not interested in renewing the contract that ends at the end of June.
Jorge was in Barcelona and briefly answered questions from reporters after reportedly meeting with club president Joan Laporta.
During the chat, as reported by the Spanish media, Joan and Jorge discussed how it would be possible to make Messi’s return viable, since there is the issue of Financial Fair Play in La Liga, among other fundamental issues for Lionel’s possible return to Catalonia.
“Leo wants to go back to Barcelona and I would love to see him back at Barca.” Jorge said.
“It’s a move option for sure. We trust that Leo can come back. But I don’t know anything yet.
“We have a million things to talk about, but I would love to come back,” the Argentine added.
Messi joined PSG from Barcelona on a free transfer summer in 2022. He has made 74 appearances for PSG, with 32 goals and 34 assists.
The 35-year-old striker won the French Championship twice and once the French Super Cup. However, he did not achieve the club’s main objective: the Champions League.
Barca president Laporta has said the club would do everything possible to try to bring Messi back.
“We will do everything we can to bring Leo Messi back to Barcelona. It’s not easy, but we’ll see.” Laporta said.
During his time at Barcelona, Mesi scoree 672 goals in 777 appearances for the Catalan giants.
So far, speculations of his return to Barcelona, a trip to Saudi Arabia, and even to Inter Miami, from the MLS, are reported, but nothing confirmed by Messi’s father and agent.
