Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois are in active talks to make happen a heavyweight unification match that will take place at Wembley Stadium on 12 July for the undisputed title.
All four major world titles are contested by heavyweight rival champions where Dubois holds the IBF belt and Usyk possesses the WBA (Super) WBO and WBC titles.
“Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois are in the process of finalizing a deal for a Ring Magazine and undisputed heavyweight championship rematch July 12 at London’s Wembley Stadium, sources told The Ring’s Mike Coppinger,” The Ring posted on X.
Since his December win against Tyson Fury, in Saudi Arabia, Usyk has not participated in any boxing matches.
Usyk defeated Dubois by stoppage in the ninth round on August 26th 2023 during their first encounter at Poland but their victory remained disputed.
During round five Dubois executed an uppercut to Usyk’s trunks which put him instantly onto the mat.
Meanwhile, Dubois secured his career-best victory by knocking out former unified champion Anthony Joshua in the fifth round during their September fight at Wembley.
However, the 27-year-old champion dropped out to defend his IBF belt against Joseph Parker in February until he became sick during fight week.
According to Usyk’s promoter Alex Krassyuk, the fight rematch against Dubois stands as their main focus instead of facing Parker for a mandatory defence.
“If undisputed makes itself possible – it will be the priority. We will come to know it within the next couple of days.” Krassyuk said.
According to Dubois’ former trainer, Shane McGuigan, he would predict an Usyk victory if another bout between them were to happen.
“I feel like he had great success in that first fight. Daniel’s grown a lot since that. He’s got great confidence, he’s come off some brilliant wins.” McGuigan said.
“But the longer that fight went on, Usyk had his number and had it well. He figured him out, he was pushing him back, caught him with little, short shots.
“I’d see Usyk beating him again, maybe even inside the distance.” McGuigan added.
