Understanding Blackjack Variations

Blackjack is arguably one of the most popular card games in casinos around the world. Although there are several variations of the game, the main goal remains the same: to obtain a total number of points higher than that of the dealer without exceeding 21.

European Blackjack

European blackjack is a very common variation that is played with two decks of cards. The rules are similar to classic blackjack, but there are some notable differences.

First, the dealer only receives one face-up card at the start of the game, and does not draw his second card until all players have completed their hand.

Additionally, if the dealer gets an ace as his first card, players can take out insurance that pays 2 to 1 if the dealer hits blackjack.

Doubling and Separation of Pairs

In European blackjack, it is allowed to double when the sum of the first two cards is equal to 9, 10 or 11.

Additionally, players can split a pair of cards of the same value to form two separate hands, but this is only allowed once and each hand must be played individually. It is not possible to split a pair again in this variation.

Blackjack Switch

Switch blackjack is an original and fun variation that is played with two simultaneous hands. The player receives two pairs of cards and can decide to swap the second cards between them to try to improve their chances of winning.

For example, if the player was dealt a 10 and a 6 on the first hand, and an ace and a 7 on the second, he can exchange the 6 and the ace to get a hand of 10 and ace (blackjack) and a another of 7 and 6 (13 points).

Specific Rules and Winnings

Because of this added advantage to players, some rules are changed to balance the odds. First of all, a natural blackjack only pays 1:1 instead of the usual 3:2.

Additionally, if the dealer gets a total of 22 points, he does not lose but it results in a draw with the players’ hands, except in the case of natural blackjack.

Finally, it is possible to make additional bets by betting on specific combinations of cards, such as having two identical pairs or a straight flush.

21 Duel Blackjack

21 Duel Blackjack is another variation of blackjack that offers additional betting options. The rules are slightly different from traditional blackjack.

Here the dealer deals two cards face up to the player and two cards face down for himself. Two community cards are also placed in the center of the table.

Whether you prefer a more classic game like European Blackjack, or are looking for additional betting options like 21 Duel Blackjack, the main thing is to have fun and enjoy the gaming experience.
