Horse racing is a very exciting sport, and it attracts many followers and viewers worldwide.
Of all the various ways to bet on horse races, one of the most exciting and rewarding ways will have to be trifecta betting.
What is Trifecta Betting?
Trifecta betting is you correctly picking the first three finishers of a race in exact order.
It’s a little more complicated than some simpler bets, such as win, place, and show bets, in which you have to pick just one horse.
Because of this complexity, trifecta betting pays out generally much higher compared to these latter, simpler bets.
How Does the Trifecta Betting Work?
First, a trifecta bet involves choosing three horses that you think will finish first, second, and third.
For instance, you bet Horse A for first, Horse B for second, and Horse C for third. Your bet is the winner only if they come out of that event in that order.
There are, however some ways that one can go about trifecta betting.
1. Straight Trifecta
This is the purest form of trifecta betting, where you need to choose three horses that must finish a race in the correct order.
It is the toughest option to get right, but this guarantees the highest payout.
2. Boxed Trifecta
In a boxed trifecta, you still get to choose the same three horses but in no particular order. It means that you win if your selected horses come in first, second, and third in whatever order.
While this increases the chances of winning, it does mean each combination has to be paid for, which takes a bigger dent out of your wallet.
3. Part Wheel Trifecta
This is a type of betting where you are selecting one horse that finishes in a specific position-i.e., first, second, etc.-but allow the other two positions to be filled by multiple horses.
A good way to keep down the cost and still manage to cover some combinations.
Why Bet on Trifectas?
The main reason in which bettors would participate in Trifecta betting is because of the big payout associated with the betting option.
Since it requires choosing three horses, all in correct order, the chances of winning will be smaller than more simplified bets. The returns, however, can be huge.
For instance, a trifecta bet would sometimes yield payouts of hundreds or even thousands of dollars, especially if there were many entrants participating in a race.
