New Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is eager to bring Cristiano Ronaldo who wants to leave Manchester United to Stamford Bridge. The American billionaire even talked about the potential of a deal with Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes.
According to the Times, Thomas Tuchel was skeptical and turned down the new owner’s idea of signing Ronaldo after consulting with former United manager Ralf Rangnick.
It is understandable when Rangnick advised Tuchel and Chelsea not to bring Ronaldo to Stamford Bridge, when the German manager publicly criticised the 37-year-old goalscorer’s inability to corner opponents.
The relationship during Ranngnick’s time with Ronaldo at United was also not good, when the Portuguese superstar showed no respect for his ability to lead the squad.
Rangnick was appointed by United to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the interim manager of the Red Devils from November last year until the end of the last season with an unsatisfactory ending when United only ranked 6th in the Premier League.
Although Ronaldo contacted many clubs to find a way to play in the Champions League, he still has no new stop, falling into the scene of having to be substituted in United’s two consecutive wins against Liverpool and Southampton.
It is all getting a little bit desperate for United with the transfer window moving into its final few days. It seems very unlikely that Ronaldo will be going anywhere but that might not affect United manager Erik ten Hag’s pursuit of another striker.
“I’m satisfied with the whole team; we’re working good, good culture and Cristiano is working really tough and hard,” Ten Hag said.
“I’m really happy [to have Ronaldo]. I told you before, we have a top striker, really happy he’s here with the squad, and we stick to the plan.” Ten Hag added.
