Pol Espargaro has seen that a lot has changed in the pit box since Marc Marquez’s return, but on his side there is little motivation to make progress with the Honda RC213V in the last races.
“It has been very difficult, since he [Marc Marquez] arrived in Misano you see that everyone has gone back to work. But you know, for me it’s the same since the last many races.” Espargaro said.
“Now that I am leaving everyone knows there is no motivation to improve, I have what I have and I have to move on.
“Nothing news is coming and I know I will continue to struggle, no one is helping in this situation. So it’s difficult.” Espargaro added.
The Spaniard is in his final race weekends as a rider with the Repsol Honda Team. He will join KTM GASGAS Tech3 team for 2023.
Espargaro has faced a difficult time since signing for HRC, with the RC213V’s development crumbling despite a positive 2022 preseason and opening race success at Qatar.
When asked whether it was difficult to keep his motivation high, the former Moto2 world champion had a clear answer.
“Yes, quite difficult, this is true. I’ve been in that situation with other manufacturers, and I have to admit it wasn’t there. But at the end of the day it ends in a very easy way.” Espargaro said.
“I’m an employee of this factory and I’m going to do what they want. I’m going to test something new if they need me, if not I’m in their hands for the good, for the bad.
“It is what it is. Talking bad about them is not the way. They gave me the opportunity to jump on this bike. Even if the results are not coming, I’m grateful for that and that’s it.” he added.
Espargaro will ride the KTM RC16 for the first time at the end of the season during one day test in Valencia.
