Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has provided an update on Pep Guardiola’s contract following the club’s four consecutive titles.
Al Mubarak revealed that Guardiola has already been at City for eight seasons, longer than his reigns at Barcelona and Bayern Munich combined.
Guardiola signed a contract extension in 2022 and will have further discussions with the club regarding his future.
Al Mubarak emphasised Guardiola’s full commitment to the club and every contract he has signed with them.
Al Mubarak highlighted Guardiola’s impact on English football, stating that the evolution of the type of football Guardiola has brought into the league has changed English football.
He also acknowledged Guardiola’s numerous achievements, including becoming the first manager to win four consecutive Premier League titles.
Guardiola is entering the final year of his contract with City this summer. The Spaniard signed a new two-year contract with City in November 2022, extending his tenure until summer 2025.
However, Guardiola has raised the prospect of leaving the club when his contract expires at the end of next season, casting doubt on his long-term future at City.
Al Mubarak expressed excitement about the possibility of further achievements with Guardiola, emphasising the manager’s passion and intelligent approach that are woven into the fabric of the football played at the club.
“We have had this conversation many times before, you know that, over the years of the contract.” Al Mubarak said.
“Pep has always been fully committed to this club, fully committed to every contract that he has signed with us.” he added.
Guardiola hinted at the possibility of extending his contract at City after the club’s historic achievement of winning four consecutive Premier League titles.
He described himself as closer to leaving the club but also suggested that he might be willing to discuss an extended deal, expressing motivation to target new achievements.
“I have a strong bond with the players, the staff, and the fans, and I’m eager to continue our journey together.” Guardiola said.
