Liverpool Football Club is set to announce the appointment of Arne Slot as their new manager, succeeding Jurgen Klopp.
The Dutchman, currently the manager of Feyenoord, has emerged as Liverpool’s preferred candidate for the role.
Liverpool and Feyenoord have agreed on a compensation package for Slot’s move to Anfield. The deal is worth up to £9.4 million and includes an initial payment of £7.7 million plus potential add-ons.
The agreement between the two clubs paves the way for Slot to join Liverpool as Klopp’s successor.
Klopp publicly endorsed Slot as a good manager and good guy during a press conference. Klopp expressed his happiness with the appointment and stated that Slot would have the best job in the world at Liverpool.
“I like the way his team plays football, definitely,” Klopp told Sky Sports.
“All the things I hear about him – some people I know know him, I don’t know him yet – but some people tell me that he’s a really good guy, and I like that a lot.”
“So, good coach, good guy, looking forward for the club. If he’s the solution, or the man, then I’m more than happy.” Klopp added.
Negotiations between Liverpool and Feyenoord have been ongoing, with talks developing quickly. The clubs are working towards finalising the deal, and an announcement could be made as soon as this weekend.
Slot has expressed his desire to join Liverpool as their new manager. In an interview, he stated that he would like to become the new Liverpool manager and is waiting for the clubs to reach an agreement.
Slot recently guided Feyenoord to victory in the KNVB Cup, which is the second trophy he has won in charge of the club. He had previously led Feyenoord to become domestic champions.
Slot is known for his attacking style of play and has been compared to Pep Guardiola. His playing philosophy and coaching style are believed to be well-suited to Liverpool.
