Jurgen Klopp has believed that Liverpool deserves to win Nothingham Forest instead of a 0-1 defeat like the final result gameweek 13 of the 2022/23 Premier League season.
“I can simply explain that this result does not reflect the game,” Klopp told BT Sport TV channel after the match at the City Ground.
“I’ve never seen a game where a team had four or five ‘brain losers’ on a set piece that should have scored. We completely dealt with their defence. To be honest. said it should have been a win for Liverpool.” Klopp added.
The Reds had many chances before conceding a goal due to a defensive mistake. The only goal of the match was scored by Taiwo Awoniyi in the 55th minute, after the mistake of the Liverpool defense.
First they lost the ball leading to the free kick, then the goal came from that free kick in a situation where the Liverpool players could not clear it.
“Every opponent’s chances were created by us. We had to adjust in the last minute and this was a game where Liverpool should not have made so many mistakes.” Klopp said.
The German manager also admitted that the thin squad while the heavy schedule made Liverpool’s performance unstable.
Liverpool come at the City Ground having won two consecutive games against West Ham and Manchester City.
They started the game against Nottingham Forest without a hitch, but then lost their tempo, consistency and paid the price for blunders.
“Put into the hands of the opponent six clear chances in one half, I’m not sure what else to say,” Klopp said.
“They are a great team. Steve Cooper is a good manager but in my opinion the winner today should be Liverpool, with all due respect to Nottingham.” Klopp added.
It was Liverpool’s third defeat in the Premier League this season in just 11 games, one more than their total losses last season.
Before meeting Nottingham Forest, Liverpool lost to Man Utd and Arsenal. All three matches will take place away from home.
In the near future, Liverpool will host Ajax in the Champions League on October 27. Three days later, they returned to Anfield to host Leeds in round 14 of the English Premier League.
