Honda HRC team principal Alberto Puig has come up with some reasons for not delivering any significant developments to the MotoGP machine during the official test on Tuesday in Barcelona.
“The 2025 prototype is built when you have something that fits you. As we have done so many tests during the year, it didn’t make sense to bring the prototype here.” Puig said.
“During the year we have been trying many things, and it didn’t make sense to bring a black bike here, when we have had a black bike for a large part of the year.” Puig added.
There is a plan for a private test in Jerez later this month, and some of the new updates that are set to be launched in 2025 could be prepared.
This is because the Barcelona test was regarded as important for the manufacturers terming it as a reference as it provided them with an opportunity for making comparisons with the data gathered from the last racing weekend at the same event.
“We had three important things to test, which we have been testing during the year, but we do not have a prototype as such,” Puig said.
“We work with different issues of the bike, for stability, braking, vibrations. It has not been easy to solve the vibrations.
“It’s not your typical chattering, it’s something bigger. It conditions the riders a lot. It is what has us most worried.” he added.
Honda was in the last position of championship, gaining only 75 points after the last race of the 2024 season. This disappointing end signals a reversal of fortunes for a maker that long held the status of the winningest brand in the sport of motorcycle racing.
It has been a troubled season for the factory team and their satellite team LCR who came in at tenth and the HRC team just behind at eleventh.
Honda’s problems were there for everyone to see in 2024 season and the team had to face all sorts of technical problem and unpredictability.
Once the uncrowned king of motorsports, it becomes the underdog battling against the rising new contenders like Ducati and Yamaha who’re outclass in racetrack.
