Damian Lillard’s career is linked with the Portland Trail Blazers’ recent past. After all, the franchise has played ten seasons and over 700 games.
The point guard has become a symbol of the franchise, in short, since he was selected with the sixth pick in the 2012 draft, and he confirmed that he does not intend to change that story, as he is determined to only play for the Oregon team in the NBA.
“Yes, I plan on playing here until the end of my career. Certainly, I’ve heard a lot of people saying that I should leave and wanting to make my decisions.” Lillard said.
“But at the end of the day, I’ll never be the person who dances to other people’s music. I will always do what feels best for me. That is, what my heart says is right.” Lillard added.
Lillard’s moment with the Blazers became a symbol of dedication throughout the decade. He passed up better competitive opportunities to remain with the only team he has ever defended as a professional.
His willingness to stay in Oregon was sometimes seen as insistence and lack of ambition. But for the star, it’s just a trait of his personality.
“People call, above all, this decision of mine to be loyal. It’s ‘loyalty’ to the four corners, in any discussion.” Liilard said.
“I’m a loyal person, naturally, because that’s who I am. It’s not just loyalty to the franchise, but to who I am. I’m a person who, finally, really believes in my convictions.” he added.
Lillard’s career would be crowned, certainly, by taking a Larry O’Brien trophy to the Blazers. And this is one of the points that encourage the continuity of the point guard in the franchise.
Some analysts believe that is not a feasible option, but they cannot stop a player and team from pursuing the title. A decade has passed, and his belief in the team’s potential has not changed.
