Basketball Hall of Fame considers Carmelo Anthony as one of their final candidates.
The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced the 2025 class finalists on a Friday release.
Since his NBA retirement in 2022 the New York Knicks favourite player now leads the contenders to Basketball Hall of Fame honours due to his NBA and USA national team accomplishments.
Anthony has been selected for the NBA All-Star team ten times throughout his career in basketball.
The NBA point-scoring record books rank Anthony as their tenth-best performer after his 28,289 points.
He did not take the championship trophy at the US tournament but managed to bring his Syracuse team to win the college championship during that season.
Carmelo reached his greatest success both inside the NBA and NCAA framework. Playing for the United States national team secured Carmelo three Olympic gold medals in 2008, 2012 and 2016 and a bronze in 2004 together with a win at the Tournament of the Americas in 2007.
He maintained his position as the top point scorer in US Olympic history until the previous games where he also retained the highest point total from one game.
The sports legends have recovnised his natural talent. The Miami Heat president Pat Riley named the Knicks legend as one of the “greatest players of all time” during his recent interview.
“He was a tough wing to guard, a good shooter, a strong physique, an athletic wing. He carried Denver for a long time, then went to New York.” Riley said.
“He was always a tough player to defend. So you had to game plan for him every night. He had a great career,” Riley added.
During his interview the Heat manager emphasised how Anthony possessed many qualities as an athlete.
His past experiences revealed that before roles were respected he wandered throughout different positions and displayed excellent ability at every position.
