Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta on Tuesday has spoken about their clean sheet record to the press ahead of his side’s Premier League clash with Newcastle United at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal won 21 absolute points when playing at the Emirates this season, respectively defeating Leicester 4-2, Fulham 2-1, Aston Villa 2-1, Tottenham 3-1, Liverpool 3-2, Nottingham Forest 5-0 and the latest is West Ham 3-1.
They only dropped points away twice, losing 1-3 at Manchester United and drawing 1-1 at Southampton.
“It’s not about stopping anybody; it’s about being realistic where we are. The way we are performing, obviously it’s impressive and we are really happy with that.” Arteta said.
“But, as well, we set the objectives in the short term and what we want to improve and what is making us win that many football matches.” Arteta added.
If extending the winning streak in the English Premier League at Emirates Stadium to nine matches, Arsenal will widen the gap with Manchester City to 10 points.
When asked about his goals for 2023, Arteta did not talk about winning the Premier League or set any specific goals or titles.
Instead, the Spaniard just wants to focus on winning every game, starting with the welcome to Newcastle, and hope the players and their loved ones are healthy and enjoy life.
“They are a very good team, really well coached. I think what Eddie has done in a short period of time and you look at the numbers it’s incredible, so big credit to him and the coaching staff.” Arteta said.
“They have created a belief and momentum around the team that they play the same way against any opponents, so we will start to prepare for that game.”
“It is going to be another big test, but we will play at home in front of our crowd, and I’m looking forward to it.” he added.
