Former Denver Nuggets, Seattle SuperSonics coach George Karl has made controversial remarks about LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.
Karl engaged with fans of the California franchise on X (formerly Twitter) and boldly declared that the number James is no longer a superstar.
He talked about how he was tired of seeing news about the Los Angeles franchise.
Furthermore, he compared the team’s situation with another nationally strong team in the USA that is going through a period of disappointment in the NFL: the Dallas Cowboys.
“To be honest, I’m tired of all the news I see about Lakers and Cowboys out there,” Karl posted.
“I understand that these teams have a very large fan base, but that’s the only reason they’re always in the news.
“After all, neither franchise has any aspirations for the title at the moment. They are highly valued, let’s talk about other things.” Karl added.
Karl’s comments sparked a mixed reaction. However, his interaction with Lakers fans peaked when he delivered a controversial speech about James’ current status in the NBA, drawing the ire of many users.
“I have some great free advice for anyone coordinating a coaching search in Los Angeles. LeBron James is no longer a superstar. You need to understand this.” Karl said.
“In fact, forget about Anthony Davis being the replacement, he won’t be that either. Use these uncomfortable truths to your advantage in your search for a coach.
“You will be able to find someone suitable for the next two years.” he added.
Karl retired as an NBA coach after the 2015-16 season with the Sacramento Kings.
His impact on basketball is characterised by his coaching achievements, innovative style, personal resilience, and lasting influence on the sport and its players.
