Nikola Jokic Minimises His Chances of Winning Third NBA MVP Award

Even with tough competition, Nikola Jokic is the top pick to win the MVP title for the 2023/24 NBA season.

This would be his third win in the last three years, but Jokic has said he doesn’t really mind if he doesn’t get the award.

In a recent game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Jokic stood out for the Denver Nuggets. The game was a big one for the Western Conference standings, facing off against Rudy Gobert, who is likely to win the defender of the year award.

Despite this tough competition, Denver came out on top with a strong performance.

“It’s always complicated, but I think the talk about the MVP got a little out of hand,” Jokic said.

“It’s an exhausting debate that often harms the candidates more than it helps, which to me doesn’t make any sense. So I don’t really care about it anymore.” Jokic added.

In the recent game, Jokic showed off his skills by scoring a whopping 41 points, grabbing 11 rebounds, dishing out seven assists, and making three steals.

What’s even more impressive is that he managed to make 16 out of 20 shots from the field, despite facing tough defense from Rudy Gobert and the Timberwolves. Jokic’s performance was truly outstanding and a sight to behold on the court

This includes two attempted and accurate three-pointers. However, the star remained humble and stated that he is just one among many other candidates.

“I just know I’m playing good basketball. This I can speak for myself. Other than that, I don’t really care to the point of getting upset or anything like that.” Jokic said.

“There are many good athletes and candidates for the award. If it’s me, it will be really cool, of course. But if it’s not, that’s okay too.” he added.

One of the direct competitors for the award is the center’s personal friend, Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks.

On another occasion, the star even stated that it was the shipowner who deserved the award above all others, including him.

Other names still alive are Shai Gilgeous-Alexander from the Oklahoma City Thunder and Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks.

As the season came to a close, Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets were on a mission to secure the top spot in the Western Conference. They faced tough competition from teams like the Minnesota Timberwolves and Oklahoma City Thunder.

In the last six games, Jokic has been scoring an average of 31.8 points per game. That’s a lot of points! Not only that, he’s also grabbing 14.8 rebounds and dishing out 9.5 assists per game. Talk about a triple threat!

Jokic is also a defensive powerhouse, averaging 1.6 steals per game. He’s not just scoring and assisting, he’s also making sure the other team doesn’t score easily.

And when it comes to shooting, Jokic is on fire. He’s making an impressive 60.6% of his shots and an incredible 47.8% of his three-pointers. That’s some serious accuracy!

If he wins the award, Jokic will join a table of just seven other athletes who have won three awards in four years. The list only has: Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain.
