Ja Morant could be suspended for 50-game by the NBA if it is proven that he carried a gun on official Memphis Grizzlies grounds.
The information was disclosed by Marc Stein and Chris Haynes, during the podcast This League Uncut on Tuesday.
Therefore, the controversy for appearing with a revolver during live on his Instagram can earn him an even greater punishment.
“If there is a gun on the team’s premises [or on the plane], it generates an automatic 50-game suspension. That’s why the league is trying to find out where the weapon was before the video.” Stein said.
“There are some elements that the NBA and police in Colorado are trying to investigate.
“There are doubts whether he brought the pistol himself. So if you were with her on the trip, there’s a question. Did he have the pistol on the team plane?” Stein added.
The NBA launched an investigation into the incident, and the Grizzlies suspended Morant for two games. However, the NBA’s isolation period was, previously anticipated to last longer.
But, Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins has revealed that the period without his main player is uncertain.
“I think the focus right now is on Ja taking responsibility. Therefore, he will get help to get to a better place as a person.” Jenkins said.
“At the same time, he will be able to assume the expectations he carries as a team member. We support him and so he will be out for a while,” he added.
Colorado police on the other side, on Monday released a report stating that Morant was at a nightclub.
The location in question is where the Grizzlies star appears with the gun. The nightclub is located in Glendale, a small town 15 minutes from Denver.
History of Controversies
The gun video was just the latest controversy Ja Morant has been involved in this season. First, the story surfaced that he would have assaulted a 17-year-old.
The episode, by the way, would have happened during a basketball game at his home in Tennessee. But, after the fight, he would have left the house with a visible gun in his pants and with his hand close to the revolver.
